Tone
re Tone - This refers to the lightness or darkness of something. This could be a shade or how dark or light a colour appears. Tones are created by the way the light falls on a 3D object. the parts of an object on which the light is strongest are called highlights and the darker areas are called shadows. There will a range of tones in between the highlights and shadows. Without tone, form does not exist, tone is therefore an important aspect in the visualisation of 3D objects.
Diffused Light - Light that is not harsh and direct, it has been softened in some way. A great example is when you are outside and the sun is shining, with no clouds in the sky. Overcast (diffused) lighting is preferred by many photographers, as it is a flat and even light.

h Harsh lighting - lighting is described as harsh when it exposes and draws attention to unpleasant features of the subject instead of blurring and "softening" these features.
Research (of artists and techniques)
A photographer that I chose to study for my research on tone was a man named Ansel Adams. Ansel Adams was born in February 20th, 1902 and died in April 22nd, 1984. san Francisco, California. Ansel Adams was a photographer and environmentalist. He creates black and white images of the American west, especially Yosemite National Park.

Best Images

I think that these are my best photos because they all share a lot of the zone tones. As well as this, they all look elegant and fit into the topic of tone.
Images that need editing
As well as needing to be in Black and White, these images are either too light, dark or out of focus. Regarding the picture above, I prefer the other photo of this tree more because of the difference in light along with the position of the tree.

I feel that the artist research was very helpful in this study as it helped me to understand the theory on Tone and made me look for the different tones in nature without sticking to the obvious objects to photograph. My research on Ansel Adams was helpful as I could learn a different style of photography to mine which I feel pushed me whist I was taking and editing my photos.

With reference to my best selected images: I feel that these images link to the topic and to the artist that I studied. I also feel like the work in which I have shown my focus on tone in nature through some different forms.
AO2: Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.
To take my photos I used a Canon E10 1000D, with multiple lenses. Whilst on the shoots I played around with the aperture and shutter speeds on the camera, trying to create some interesting images.
